At Hillbourne, we want our children to write clearly, accurately, confident and creatively in a range of contexts. Our Writing curriculum is based on excellent models for the children to listen to, read and see being written, whether these are published children’s books or written by their teacher. In school, we build children’s vocabulary by directly teaching new, complex and exciting vocabulary each day. We teach high levels of age-appropriate spelling, punctuation and grammar skills through reading and writing in daily Literacy lessons.
At home, it is vital that your child continues to write each day. Your child’s teacher will provide daily writing tasks which use clear models to help your child know how to structure and organise their writing. Helping them complete these tasks with their best handwriting, spelling and punctuation will help them consolidate and build upon their writing skills.
