SEN

The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) at Hillbourne Primary School is Ms Emma Camilleri

At Hillbourne Primary School, we embrace the fact that every child is different, and therefore, the educational need of every child is different; this is certainly the case for children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities.

The four broad ‘areas of need’ are defined as: Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties, and Sensory and Physical Needs.

Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are sometimes identified before they start school, others are initially identified by assessments carried out by school staff before being placed on the Special Needs Register. Support from other agencies will be requested if required. Children can be on the SEN register for a short while whilst they receive some intervention or throughout their schooling, this depends on their level of need. Parents will be kept informed and consulted regarding any decisions relating to SEN children by their child’s class teacher and/or SENCo.

Appointments to see Ms Camilleri can be made in person, by phone or via the school office.
