9th July 2018

Dear Parents and Friends,

The end of the school year is approaching fast. Hopefully the fantastic sunny weather will last into the holidays!

Do remember to check that your child has their hat and a full water bottle when they come to school. Please also make sure that your child has sun screen on exposed areas of skin.

Please do feel free to leave cardigans and jumpers at home as school is really quite warm at the moment.

Summer Fair

Heart of Hillbourne are hosting our Summer Fair this Friday 3.30-5pm. Please do come along and support this event. Every penny raised is going to our minibus fund, so a very worthy fund!

Staff news

Mrs Fogg is unfortunately unwell and is unlikely to return before the end of the year. We are very grateful to Mrs Kellaway and Mrs Allisett for stepping in to lead the class for the last few weeks of term.

The children met their new teachers on Friday. We were very pleased to welcome Miss Challis and Mrs Bancroft to Year 2 and Miss Patton to Year 4. We know they will really enjoy working with our lovely Hillbourne children.

As delighted as we were to meet our new staff, it did remind us that it will soon be time to say goodbye to Miss Whittaker, Miss Elson and Mr Harwood. We will miss them enormously and wish them the very best in their new ventures.

This is the last week for all teacher led clubs. Karate and Summer Sports will run next week but there will be no other clubs.

Information about Autumn term clubs will be distributed at the start of the new term.

Reports will be issued to parents by the class teachers at the end of school on Tuesday 17th July. Reports can only be handed to parents as they contain confidential and sensitive information. If you are unable to pick up your child’s report on Tuesday, they can be picked up from your child’s class teacher at the start or end of every day next week. We will post any uncollected reports home on Monday 23rd July.

As usual, we have included a feedback form with the reports. If you are particularly happy about something the school has done, please let us know. If there is something you think we could do better, please let us know.

Open Day

All parents are invited to come into school from 2pm on Wednesday 18th July. This is an opportunity to look through your child’s work and see what they have been up to this year. You are welcome to take your child home once you have finished, but please let the class teacher know you are doing so!

Reminders of arrangements for the start and end of the day for September.

Children in Reception and Year 1 line up in the playground outside the Year 1 classrooms. Teachers will be in the playground at the start of the day if you wish to speak with them. Children will be released from the classroom doors at the end of the day.

Year 2 children line up on the playground behind the Acorns building and teachers will bring them in from the back door. They will be dismissed from here at the end of the day.

Year 3 children go to the top playground in the morning. The children have been shown where to go and where to line up but if you would like to walk up with your child, please do so.

At the end of the day, Year 3 children will be brought to the right hand side of the front yard and dismissed to parents by their teacher. Teachers will ask the children to high five them and point out their parent before leaving with them.

Uniform for September

As you know, Tesco’s is now producing school jumpers rather than sweatshirts. After careful consideration, we have decided that next year, parents can opt for any of the following when buying new uniform:

  1. Buy an embroidered black jumper from Tesco’s
  2. Buy an embroidered black sweatshirt / cardigan from the Uniform Shop, Poole High Street
  3. Buy a plain black sweatshirt/ cardigan

We will be undertaking a full review of the Hillbourne uniform in the new school year.

School leavers

Year 6 have been working very hard in their last half term here at Hillbourne. Thanks to everyone who has been supporting their enterprise projects. I have been more impressed with Year 6 then with many of Lord Sugar’s candidates. I am looking forward to their performance for their parents later this week and know that the children will be putting their best effort into this as indeed they have done with all their ventures over their time here. We have been very proud of this cohort who have provided a consistently excellent example to the rest of the school.

We wish Year 6 and all other children moving onto new schools the very best of luck for a happy and successful future.

School closes on Wednesday 25th July at 1.45pm.

We reopen on Wednesday 5th September at 8.45am. The School Office will be open on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th September, should you wish to contact us before term starts.

If I don’t see you before, I will take the chance to wish you all a fabulous holiday and I look forward to seeing you again in September.

With best wishes
