9th December 2021

News sheet 9th December 2021

This half term has been a been very challenging for all of us. We have settled into our new buildings and the revised routines that it has demanded; we have said goodbye to a very loved colleague and we have all had to deal with the increasing demands of Covid with many children and staff having had to stay at home, having contracted the virus.

We are very grateful to all of you who wear masks onto school premises especially those of you who find it difficult to do so. This will also help us to minimise infection rates if the new Omicron variant does turn out to be as virulent as the government is currently indicating.

A reminder that links to the KS1 performance of ‘A Little Bird Told Me’ and the KS2 Carol Concert will be sent out on Wednesday 15th December.

We are sorry that we are not able to invite parents into school, but feel this is the best way to ensure that as many of us as possible remain well for the Christmas holidays and beyond.

We hope that you will enjoy the performances

A reminder that class teachers are organising end of term parties on Thursday 16th December.

In order to minimise any risk of transmission between home and school, we will be asking the children to wear their favourite clothes into school and we will be working with the children to provide party snacks.

Special Jumper Day

On Friday, 17th December, the last day of term, children are welcome to wear their favourite jumpers. They do not need to wear uniform on this day.

Staff news

We are very pleased to be welcoming Mrs Leigh Rumble to our staff in January. Mrs Rumble was appointed to support Jane and so will now be taking on a rather bigger role as our Pastoral Care Worker.

Miss Rachael Schlaefli will be joining our teaching staff on a permanent basis from January. Miss Schlaefli will continue to work as 6AC’s class teacher and will be the main point of contact for parents with any concerns.

A reminder that no clubs will run in the last week of term. A letter will be sent home next week advertising the opportunities available next term.

We will continue to run clubs in KS1 and KS2 bubble groups but will be reducing the maximum numbers to 15 for indoor clubs in order to maximise space in the classrooms.

Desk top computers

We still have a number of desk top computers available to support children with their learning at home.  If you have the space for a desktop, please email or call the office as soon as possible.

Hamwic Trust

As you know, Hillbourne is working towards joining the Hamwic Trust. If you have any questions about this process or how it might impact on the school, please email the office on .

Free School Meal Vouchers

We are pleased to confirm that BCP council are able to fund supermarket vouchers for the Christmas holiday period for those families who are eligible for free school meals.  Vouchers will be issued on Friday, 17th December 2021.

If you have any queries regarding your vouchers please contact the school office by 3pm on that day.

Building works

Although we are now settled into the new building, the construction works continue on our external grounds and the gradual demolition of the Oaks and Acorns buildings has started. Work has started on removing all the internal fixtures of the buildings which will be taken down gradually using ‘nibblers’ which are machines that take the buildings down in chunks.

Time capsule

The children have filled a Time Capsule which will be buried on the school grounds on Monday. Our School Council children will be leading on this.

The children chose to include items of our old uniform along with our new uniform. All the children in school in July 2021 have recorded their aspirations for the future.  It will be interesting to see how many of these are achieved by the time the capsule is reopened!

We close on Friday at 1.45pm. School will reopen on Tuesday 4th January at 8.30am.

Have a very happy Christmas!
