8th July 2019

Dear Parents and Friends,

The end of the school year is just two weeks away. Hopefully the sunny weather will last into the holidays!

Do remember to check that your child has their hat and a full water bottle when they come to school. Please also make sure that your child has sun screen on exposed areas of skin.

Building work

There has been a significant amount of work going on in preparation for the start of the new build. A local firm, Morgan Sindall, has been appointed and is currently working with the architect and the school to complete the last stages of the design process.

We expect the building work to start in February 2020 and be completed in December 2020 ready for occupation in February 2021. We are delighted to have a move date in the diary after so many years of anticipation!

Summer Fair

Thank you so much to everybody who supported the Hillbourne Summer Spectacular. We could not have asked for better weather. We were delighted to welcome the Mayor to open the event and I was happy to step in for Mark Bennett, who was unfortunately unwell, to taste the amazing selection of cakes presented in the Hillbourne Bake Off!

We were thrilled to meet so many ex pupils and staff who took great joy in looking around the school as it is now. We were able to find a great many of our visitors in the old Admission Books, which date back to the school opening in 1953. Huge thanks to the Heart of Hillbourne committee, Ali Cox, Claudine Read, Louise Middleton and their team of volunteers who did such a brilliant job organising this event.

Our first new mini-bus arrived in good time to be put on show at the Fair. We are so grateful to everybody who has made the purchase of this bus possible and look forward to being able to buy a second bus very soon!

This is the last week for all clubs.

Information about Autumn term clubs will be distributed in the first week of the new term.

Reports will be issued to parents by the class teachers at the end of school on Monday 15th July. Reports can only be handed to parents as they contain confidential and sensitive information. If you are unable to pick up your child’s report on Monday, they can be picked up from your child’s class teacher at the start or end of every day next week. We will post any uncollected reports home on Monday 22nd July.

Open Day

All parents are invited to come into school from 2pm on Tuesday, 16th July. This is an opportunity to look through your child’s work and see what they have been up to this year. Please encourage your child to show you their classroom for the new year.

You are welcome to take your child home once you have finished, but please let the class teacher know you are doing so!

Reminders of arrangements for the start and end of the day for September.

Reception and Year 1 children.

Children in Reception and Year 1 line up in the playground at the front of the Acorns building. Teachers will be in the playground at the start of the day if you wish to speak to them.

Children will be released from the classroom doors at the end of the day.

Year 2 children.

Year 2 children line up on the playground behind the Acorns building. Teachers will meet the children here in the morning and take them into school through the back door at 8.45am sharp.

Children will be dismissed here at the end of the day.

Year 3 children.

Year 3 children go to the top playground in the morning.  The children will be shown where to go and where to line up but if you would like to walk up with your child, please do so.

At the end of the day, Year 3 children will be brought to the right hand side of the front yard and dismissed to parents by their teacher. Teachers will ask the children to high five them and point out their parent before leaving with them.

Parent Questionnaire

Please find a questionnaire in your child’s bag. We would be very grateful if you could complete and return this before the end of term so that we can make sure parental views are included in our forward planning.

Uniform questionnaire

Please could I also ask that you share your views on our uniform by completing and returning the short questionnaire.

School leavers

We wish all children moving onto new schools the very best of luck for a happy and successful future.

School closes on Friday 19th July at 1.45pm.

We reopen on Wednesday 4th September at 8.45am.  The School Office will be open on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd September, should you wish to contact us before term starts.

If I don’t see you before, please have a fabulous holiday.  I look forward to seeing you again in September.

With best wishes

Helen Roderick
