News sheet 5th October 2020

Covid precautions and ventilation in school

As you probably know, we need to keep the school well ventilated to minimise the spread of any germs. This involves keeping doors and windows open. Whilst we will be putting the heating on soon, the buildings do feel cold so please do put extra layers (vest/ leggings/ thermals) on your child to keep them warm.

PE kit

We will be teaching PE and games outside for as long as it is possible. Please make sure your child is appropriately dressed. If your child forgets their kit, they will watch the lesson outside, so please do send your child with a coat (or preferably in their kit!)

If your child has a sports club, this will be held outside. You may wish to send your child with a thin waterproof to wear in case of rain. If the weather is grim, please do bring a towel or dry clothing when you come to pick up your child.

Remote learning

Although it currently seems unlikely that the school will fully close again, we do know that individual children or ‘bubbles’ will miss periods of school over the next year. We are therefore working to ensure that we provide work in a format that is accessible to children and families working at home. In order to do this, we need to know what access your child has to technology at home.

Please could I ask you to complete and return the hard copy questionnaire that will be sent home with your oldest child tomorrow.

Building works

The builders have started digging out the foundations for the new build. Although it does look like we have two swimming pools, they are indeed the footprint of the new nursery unit and the back of the new classroom block.

A brilliant animation of our new build can be found on Youtube if you use this link:

On Wednesday our School Council representatives will be visiting site to perform the official ground breaking ceremony. This will be the first of many visits planned by Morgan Sindall to ensure that the children feel part of the construction of their new school. Photos to follow!

Just a reminder that if your child is unable to come to school, you should phone to report them as absent by 9.00 am.  Please give their full name, specific reason as to why they are absent and a contact telephone number.  If you are unsure whether your child should be in school please feel free to phone the school office from 8.15am.

Book bags

We have now started to send home reading books and reading records with children. Please do feel free to use your child’s Hillbourne book bag. If you do not have one, we will be sending out named plastic wallets. These are big enough for a book and reading record only so we hope to continue to ensure that no unnecessary extras from home are carried into school!

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day: Saturday 10th October

This year has been a tough one, particularly for people living with mental illness. COVID-19 has impacted on the mental health of millions of people. Increased levels of anxiety, fear, isolation, social distancing and restrictions, uncertainty and emotional distress have become widespread as the world struggles to bring the virus under control.

Morgan Sindall are supporting the ‘Mellow Yellow’ theme of World Mental Health Day on the site on Friday 9th October by wearing yellow. If you would like your children to show their support, please feel free to dress them in something yellow on Friday.

If you would like further information on how to look after your mental health, please see:
