27th June 2019

Dear Parents and Friends,

I am delighted that Summer looks like it might finally have arrived! Fingers crossed that the sun shines for our rescheduled Sports Days and the Heart of Hillbourne Summer Fair on Saturday!

Should the warm weather continue, please do remember to check that your child has their hat and a full water bottle when they come to school. Please also make sure that your child has sunscreen on exposed areas of skin.

It was definitely not warm when I spent the week in Swanage with Year 6 pupils last week. Fortunately, the 5mm wetsuits provided good insulation for our sea based activities and our forest crafts included fire making so we could keep ourselves toasty! Thanks to Mr Tough and Miss Patton for working so hard all week to make sure every child had a good time.

Thanks to the Year 6 pupils who attended who took part in all activities with real enthusiasm and who all went to bed on time!

Summer Fair

Heart of Hillbourne are hosting our ‘Hooray for Hillbourne Spectacular’ on Saturday 29th June from 11.30-3.00pm. The new Mayor of Poole will be opening the event and we have Mark Bennett coming along to judge the Bake Off!

We also hope to be able to display our new mini bus in the playground. Fingers crossed that it arrives in time!

Please find a book of raffle tickets in your child’s book bag. Each ticket costs £1. Please return all raffle ticket stubs and any unused tickets together with any money by Friday 28th June to the school office.

Sports Days

We remain confident that KS2 Sports Day will go ahead on Friday 28th June. Please send your children into school in their Sports Kit and House colours. Parents are welcome to join us from 1.45pm.

KS1 Sports Day will be held on Tuesday 2nd July at 1.30pm.

Sports Success

On 11th June, a group of Year 4,5 & 6 pupils went to Ashdown Leisure Centre to compete at Poole Town Sports against all the other schools in the Poole area. All children battled hard in some challenging conditions.

Numerous children made the finals in their respective events and four children managed to qualify to represent Poole at the next stage at King's Park on June 28th. These children were: Riley (4LF) for Long Jump, Evie (5/6CH) for Long Jump, Nancy (5SW) for 600m and Kara (5SW) for Rounder's Ball throw.  A fantastic effort by all pupils who attended and we look forward to seeing them represent Poole and hopefully qualify to represent Dorset in the near future.

Staff update

Sadly both Mrs Sibley and Mrs Ware  remain unable to return to work before the end of term.  We very much hope that they will be fully recovered for the start of the Autumn term.

Mrs Kellaway

I am very sad to say that Mrs Kellaway will be leaving Hillbourne at the end of term. Mrs Kellaway is well known across the school, teaching regularly in every year group. We will miss Mrs Kellaway’s good humour, flexibility, kindness and brilliant teaching. We wish her the very best in her new ventures but hope she will stay in regular contact.

School Photographs

Any orders for school photographs need to be in school by Friday, 28th June or alternatively you can order online.  Any orders received after this date cannot be guaranteed to be returned by the end of term.

Family Outreach Worker Drop in session

Jodie, our Family Outreach Worker, will be in school next Thursday from 8.45am. If you would like to see her to discuss any concern about any of your children, please just drop in to the Willow Room.

Important dates for the end of term

Reports will be issued to parents by the class teachers at the end of school on Monday 15th July.

Open Day

All parents are invited to come into school from 2pm on Wednesday 16th July. This is an opportunity to look through your child’s work and see what they have been up to this year.

With best wishes

Yours sincerely

Helen Roderick
