26th March 2019

Dear Parents and Friends,

With less than two weeks to go until we break up for the Easter holidays, the Spring term seems to have flown by!

New Building Update

The plans for the new build continue to move forward slowly and steadily. We are expecting a contractor to be appointed within the next month. There will be little evidence of work on site until late in the Autumn term but, please rest assured, there is plenty going on behind the scenes!

World Book Day

It was lovely to see so many pupils dressed up as their favourite book characters during World Book Day.  In school, we had a fantastic day of reading lessons. The pupils completed a carousel of activities around different classrooms and with different teachers, which lasted all morning.  All the activities were linked to Roald Dahl and the pupils produced some incredible work. We also had the first ever ‘Book Swap’ in the afternoon, where pupils who had donated books, could go and get a new one! There were many pupils with happy, smiling faces because they had found a book that they wanted to read. A big ‘Well Done!’ to the Heart of Hillbourne for organising this activity and thank you to all the pupils who donated books.

Red Nose Day

A massive thank you to all those pupils who bought Red Noses and who wore red to school. Also, thank you to parents who donated cakes and then scrambled to buy them at the end of the day! Sorry to those pupils who did not get any cakes, hopefully next time we’ll get more donations. After all your efforts, we managed to raise £326.50 for Comic Relief. What a fantastic effort from everyone involved, especially the School Council for coming up with the fund raising ideas.

Over the past couple of weeks the Hillbourne Football Teams having been taking part in mini tournaments, against other schools in the Poole area, at Talbot Primary School. We took two teams to the Year 4/5 fixtures with Hillbourne Green being undefeated in their three matches scoring 11 goals and conceding 0!  Hillbourne Blue, also played three matches and played some excellent football considering it was the first time that they had all played together. Well done everyone!

Last week the Year 5/6 Girls Football Team played three games, winning two and losing one with some standout performances by Amelia and Nancy. A special ‘Well done!’ to Chevy who played in goal and despite being hit viciously in the face and having to sit out for the remainder of the first game, went back in goal for the final two matches-very brave!

A reminder that there will be no clubs next week as it is the last week of the full term.

Next term’s Club letter will be sent out next week. We are trying to raise the sporting profile of the School so most of our after school clubs will be sports based.  Summer Term Clubs will start the week beginning Monday 29th April.

Heart of Hillbourne Easter Tombola

A reminder that the Heart of Hillbourne Easter Egg tombola will be operating before and after school every day next week or until all the Easter Eggs have gone!

There will also be a Raffle for a Luxury Easter Hamper. Tickets are £1 each and will be on sale all next week. The Draw will take place on Thursday 4th April at pick up time in the main playground, weather permitting!

Please do support our team of fantastic fund-raising parents by taking part. It is for a great cause!

Dates for next term

Please find attached a list of some important dates for next term.

We close for the Easter break at 1.45pm on Friday 5th April. School reopens at 8.45am on Tuesday 23rd April.

I hope you all have a lovely holiday and that the Spring sunshine continues to shine.

Best wishes

Yours sincerely

Helen Roderick
