18th December 2018

18th December 2018

Dear Parents and Friends,

As the term draws to a close, I am writing to wish you all a very happy holiday.

I also send particular good wishes to Miss Emerson as she leaves at the end of the week to start her maternity leave. We look forward to hearing news of baby Emerson/ Tough early in the new term.

We were delighted to see the Government League tables published with Hillbourne second in reading, writing and maths in Poole. We are very proud of the children and staff who made this possible.

If you want to look at the tables, please follow the link on the school Facebook page or use

Primary school performance tables: 2018 - GOV.UK

Angel Express

KS 1 and Reception children put on two outstanding performances of ‘Angel Express’ last week. The singing and dancing was exuberant and much appreciated by our enthusiastic audiences. Thank you to everybody who provided such great support for the children.

Carol Concert

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, KS 2 will be telling the story of the Nativity during their Carol Concert. This year, we are sharing the joy of the Christmas story twice so hope everybody who wants to join us is able to!

Class parties

On Thursday, the children will be celebrating the end of term with class parties. Children are invited to wear Christmas jumpers or their favourite top or dress to school. They will not be expected to be in uniform.

Please see your class teacher if you need any further information about party food.

Parent questionnaires

Thank you to those parents who completed and returned the questionnaires. We are delighted that well over 90% of those who responded felt that their children were happy, safe and well cared for here at Hillbourne. We were also very pleased that nearly all parents who responded felt that their children were well taught.

Our next steps are to review the areas which were not so strongly supported. We will be looking at how we can further improve communication and in the first instance will be redesigning this newsletter in the New Year. We will also be looking to improve our communication about how we tackle bullying as a number of parents indicated that they didn’t know what we did. We are also looking at the times of assemblies on Wednesdays to see if we can make these more convenient for working parents.

Heart of Hillbourne

A massive thankyou to Heart of Hillbourne for the work they have done this last half term. The Magic Show was greatly enjoyed by many children. Father Christmas was delighted to meet so many well behaved and polite children and very grateful to Mrs Jackman and Miss Ridout for inviting him to visit us here at Hillbourne.

The parents of the Heart of Hillbourne have also organised a successful raffle, Pocket Money present stalls and Friday Tuck Shop as well as providing refreshments at the performances of Angel Express. Thank you very much!

A reminder that there are no after school clubs this week. Clubs will restart from Friday, 11th January 2018. Clubs details and application forms have already been emailed out. Paper copies are available at the Oaks office at the end of each day if you would prefer.

We close on Friday 21st December at 1.45pm and reopen on Monday 7th January at 8.45am.

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and peaceful start to the New Year.

With best wishes

Helen Roderick
