Dear Parents and Friends
The first few weeks of the Summer term have been a very busy time here at Hillbourne. Year 2 and Year 6 pupils have demonstrated a fabulous attitude to learning during their end of key stage tests. Year 6 have now completed their week of final assessments whilst Year 2 pupils will continue working hard to show how much they have learned since starting school until the end of the half term. We are very proud of each and every one of the Year 2 and 6 cohorts for trying their very best throughout the assessments.
Year 1 also have an opportunity to show off their learning in their Phonics test in the week beginning 12th June. This test allows the children, working individually with their teacher, to apply their phonic knowledge to read a mixture of words and nonsense words made up of the rules they have learnt. Please ask your child’s class teacher or come to the office if you have any queries or concerns.
Thanks to those parents who have been able to attend our first two coffee mornings. It has been suggested that Friday morning suits more parents and grandparents so coffee mornings will now be held from 8.45-10am in the Breakfast Club room every Friday morning. We hope to see you there!
You may well be aware of the current fashion for large headbands or ‘jojo bows’ which are proving very popular with girls across the school. I do appreciate the efforts many parents have made to ensure that the bows are in the school colours of green or black.
I understand that the bows are relatively expensive and I would suggest that they are worn at weekends and holidays rather than in school. If your child does choose to wear their bow to school, please note that the school will not take responsibility for any loss or damage.
I am sure that you will be aware of the current popularity of fidget toys. Please could I ask that from next week, these are kept at home as children are now more focused on their ability to fidget than their lessons.
If your child does bring their fidget spinner into school, we will look after it for them until the end of the school day.
We have been in talks with activity providers, Planet Sport, about the provision of a summer activity centre on the Hillbourne site in the summer holidays. We are currently considering providing two weeks of activities over the second and third week. The activities would be run from 8.30am to 5pm and would cost £22 per day. There will be a concession for children who receive Pupil Premium. Activities would be suitable for all children aged 5-11. Children would be booked in online in advance and can attend as many or as few days as you wished.
Planet Sport have asked that we ask parents if they would be interested in this opportunity for their child/ children. Please reply to this email with a ‘Yes’ if you are interested in the summer activities, please feel free to add any additional comments/queries.
A reminder that we will be holding our Sports Days on Tuesday 23rd (Reception and KS1) and Thursday 25th May (Years 3-6). Events will start at 1.30pm. Please do come along and support the children!
School closes on Friday 26th May at 3.15pm and reopens at 8.45am on Monday 5th June.
With best wishes
