8th October 2018
Dear Parents and Friends
I am starting this newsletter with exciting news about our school buildings.
Over the last year, considerable work has been undertaken to investigate how the school can be improved for our pupils. Today, the papers have been released ready for a presentation to be made to the Overview and Scrutiny board of the Council on Monday 15th October to consider plans to build a new school on the Hillbourne site.
The plans have been prepared in detail. As a school, we have been working with an architect, surveyors and the local authority building, education and housing departments over the last twelve months. The plans show a new school in the centre of the Hillbourne site with new housing on either side. This plan would allow the building of the new school to be completed whilst the current school is still accommodated in the Oaks and Acorns buildings. Once the new building is ready, the school will move in and the original buildings will be removed and the land prepared for housing.
Whilst we need to await a final decision from the full Council on 31st October, we are very excited about the possibility, finally, of having a brand new school, purpose built for Hillbourne Primary.
I will let you know as soon as we have a final decision and will ofcourse keep you updated with the progress of the project.
Macmillan Coffee Afternoon
On Friday 12th October, Jane will be hosting a coffee afternoon and cake sale in the Acorns Hall from 2.45 to 3.45. This is to raise money for Macmillan.
If you would like to donate cakes to the sale, please drop these off at the Acorns Office on Friday morning.
Please make sure that your children have PE kit in school for their PE days. PE kit is as follows:
Black shorts/ joggers
White polo shirt
Please could you also make sure that your children’s kit is labelled so that it can be returned, should it go missing.
Rotary Club Shoe box collection
Thanks to those of you who have already sent in your very generous shoe boxes. Our boxes will be collected on Friday 9th November so please add this date to your calendar!
Creekmoor Food Bank
We were visited last week by members of Christ Church, Creekmoor who talked to us about Harvest and the importance of sharing. We will be collecting food in school to donate to the Foodbank at Christ Church. If you would like to send in a contribution of packaged, dried or tinned food, we would be very pleased to receive it. We will be sending donations to the foodbank on the last day of the half term, Friday 19th October.
I am very pleased to see most Hillbourne children drinking water regularly. Please can I ask parents to make sure their child brings a full water bottle to school each day to minimise the numbers of refills required.
I hope you will all have received an invite to Parents’ Evening by now. I look forward to seeing you on 16th or 18th October.
Finally thankyou to the Heart of Hillbourne and all parents and friends who supported the Family Bingo on Friday night. It was great fun!
With best wishes
