3rd December 2018

2nd December 2018

Dear Parents and Friends,

December has started and so too have the preparations for the Christmas period here in school.

Last Thursday, I was proud to watch the Hillbourne Choir perform at the Lighthouse as part of the Poole Schools’ Music Association. Children from schools across Poole came together to perform a wide selection of Christmas songs in what was a fabulous performance. I was very proud of our choir members who performed brilliantly.

KS 1 Christmas Production

This year, Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils will be performing ‘Angel Express’ on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th December. Ticket letters were sent home on Friday so please check your child’s bag is you have not yet seen one!

Key Stage 2 will be presenting the Nativity Story in readings and song on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th December. We have decided to present this twice this year after enthusiastic support from parents in previous years so hopefully there will be plenty of room for everyone who wants to join us.

Sport

During this half term, we have continued to participate in numerous sporting events. We began with a terrific victory over Heatherlands Primary School 7-5 with our Year 6 football team. Many goals were scored and some very impressive performances were on show. The Year 6 ‘A’ and ‘B’ team then transferred this form into the Year 6 Poole Tournament on 1st November at Carter Community School. Both teams achieved some impressive results and our ‘A’ team narrowly missed qualifying for the next stage where they bowed out in the semi-finals. We then continued with our PEDSSA cross-country events, this time at Sandbanks Beach. It was an extremely cold day, and all participants tried extremely hard and improved on previous results.

Upcoming events

Before the end of half term, we still have a number of events to participate in. Our Year 6 netball team have a home fixture against Longfleet Primary School on 5th December and a home fixture against Manorside Primary School on 13th December as part of a Poole School League. In addition, we are continuing our cross-country efforts with an event at Ferndown Upper School on Thursday 6th December.

School Playing Fields Consultation

Now that we have had the exciting news that Hillbourne Primary School is finally going to receive a new building, we must embrace the work that will make it happen! On Thursday 6th December, we are hosting an information evening focused on the need to dispose of some of the school playing fields. Representatives of the Council and the Building Team will be available to answer any questions you might have, so please do drop in any time from 3.30-6pm.

Parking

Could I remind parents that the carparks in school are for staff use only? There are an increasing number of parents dropping children off in the Acorns carpark particularly. If you or your child has a particular need that necessitates a drop off here, please contact the office to speak to me so that we can make appropriate arrangements.

A reminder too, please that disabled bays are for designated users only. If you do not have a disabled badge, please do not park in a disabled bay.

Questionnaire

We have sent home paper copies of the Autumn term questionnaire today. We would be grateful if you could take five minutes to let us know what you like about what we do and most importantly, what you think we could do to make school better.

I look forward to seeing you all over the next few weeks.

With best wishes
